Ward Secretary Selection Process
1. Written Examination (85 marks)
A. General Studies of Urban Local Bodies (65 marks)
This section assesses your knowledge of urban governance, planning, and key municipal functions:
- Constitutional framework for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in India
- Powers and functions of Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats
- Objectives of these ULB entities
- Tripura Real Estate Regulatory Act
- Urban revenue sources and revenue items
- Sanitation and solid waste management
- Current affairs (international, national, and regional)
- Economic development in India since independence
- History of Urban Local Bodies in India
- Tripura Municipal Act
- Basic data analysis: summary statistics (mean, median, mode, variance, etc.)
- Urban planning techniques—including:
- Types of surveys and data collection methods
- Development and redevelopment standards for residential, commercial, industrial, recreational areas
- Land use planning
- Socio-economic data for urban planning
- Inclusive and sustainable development approaches
B. General Knowledge & History of Tripura (20 marks)
Focuses on regional history, political evolution, and culture:
- Formation of Tripura State and its merger into the Indian Union
- Political history—names of kings/rulers, Chief Ministers, Governors
- Tribes of Tripura and their cultural heritage
2. Interview / Viva-Voce (15 marks)
Candidates who qualify the written exam (minimum qualifying marks: UR – 35%, Reserved – 30%) will be called for a viva-voce. The number of candidates called will be based on category-wise selection ratios (1:5, 1:4, or 1:3 depending on vacancies and applications). Final merit list combines written + interview marks.
3. Type Test / Computer Test
After final selection, candidates must undergo a Type Test on computer. This is a qualifying test only—it does not contribute to the final score.

Tips for Preparation

- Practice basic statistics and data interpretation—mean, median, mode, variance, etc.
- Be fluent in current affairs at all levels, especially topics affecting urban development.
- Prepare for viva-voce—especially common interview questions about local language proficiency (Bengali / Kokborok) and urban policy.
- Get comfortable with typing skills—the computer type test is mandatory and qualifying.
